Bahamas Day 3

We found this great little deli around the corner form our hotel. I was in LOVE! I got the

same thing each time we went. Sliced feta, cucumbers, tomato, greek olives. Yumo! I could never finish it, but it was so cheap {everything is really expensive in the Bahamas} it didn't matter if I threw 1/2 away!

 I have a love affair with steel drums..

This sweet man thought it would be a good idea for me to 'play' with him. I have NO musical talent 

what. so. ever!

I'm all "What? Are you crazy???"

 O.K he's talked me into it. Bad idea for his tips:)

 He was patient, thank goodness!

 He'll make more money without me 'helping' him though!

 We ate at the fish fry last time, not that great. But the colors of the buildings are super cool! Everything is every Caribbean and colorful.

 The police station is even friendly looking. 

 We walked down from the hotel to the public beach called Junkanoo. 

This sweet mom was nursing her infant on the side of the wall while her other children played with their father. This moment was just so sweet to me.It sums up the feeling of the island to me.

 The cruise ships change daily out at the harbor and at night I found it quite peaceful to listen to them change from being docked to sailing away to their new port. I've been on  a cruise to the Bahamas before, but I found that for me, I like to explore the country and people and on a ship you only experience the port.

 The dream in my heart of my happiest place looks just like this.

John once said that the Bahamas is where my heart belongs. I feel so at home there. Like I was meant to be there. 

So when I'm lost, I close my eyes and send myself here.

And then I'm happy.

 Sweet man on the side of the road selling coconuts he's chopped in half for you to drink the milk. He called me over try one, but I kindly declined. {it's not my favorite..}

 Junkanoo beach is covered in beautiful white coral. John found a really large piece that sits on top of our piano now. It's a sweet reminder of our trip.

 We never see pay phones anymore!

 For one of the proms a small band played. They were so good! And just look at that little guy!

 There wasn't an ugly dress in sight

 LOVED his outfit!!!! totally rocked the converse and white jeans! I wasn't expecting any boys to show up in anything but a dark suit, but that would be WAY to hot here.

 This young man was playing out a Cinderella scene. John told him he got his vote! So creative! I was in love with this idea.

 After the arrivals we walked over to The Hard Rock, this was actually a really good burger! We were going to share but I was full after 1/2 of my burger. John was on his own:)

After dinner we headed back to lay on beach chairs,  watch the ships and listen to the sound of the waves.

Another great day in the Bahamas!

{a man who lives here told me there are no bad days in the Bahamas. I think he's right}

Bahamas Day 2

 We were practically first to the beach! 

Love it!

 this Bahamian man lives on his boat  and every morning he goes out and catches fresh conch. then makes conch salad all day long. still out there at 11 pm. amazing!

We've gone to the Bahamas in June before, but never run into it being prom week! It was soooo much fun to watch! I started planning my evening around what time the kids would be showing up. the theme for this school was black and white. I've never seen a prom with a theme before, but it looked so nice! The kids were so classy. Unlike in the states where you try to find the most skimpy dress you can and have everything hanging out, these girls looked so beautiful and classy.

Hundreds of people come from all over the island to watch. As a Hilton guest we got to stand up close and see all the couples as they walked by. They were so friendly and polite. We stood right by the judges! JUDGES!  can you believe that?

you get points for different things, like how you arrived, your dress, how he acted. amazing!

It's a show to see who can put on the best show as they arrive. The hotel manager said some parents will spend thousands of dollars on this night! Some let balloons up into the air as they got out of the car, some threw candy like they were at a parade, one even threw MONEY! the crowd went wild for that! I was so lucky that I din't have to be in the crowd~ i would have died! Some kids have an outfit they arrive in and then a different one for the dance! Holy cow! It was insane and so much fun all at the same time!

They rent amazing cars! That truthfully, I din't know they would have on the island!

{when you bring a car to the island you have to pay at minimum 5,000. more if the car is worth more, then they charge you 10-15% of the value of the car.}

After we watched the arrivals for a while we walked over to Senior frogs for some dinner.

This DJ really knew how to pump up the crowd.

{I'm sure all the alcohol they were taking in helped...hence the woman on the stage who probably regretted her behavior the next day...}

But the food is good & it's the only restaurant open after 8 pm. So if you stayed at the beach till the sun was down...this was your dinner option:)

Bahamas Day 1

 Right after Jordan's name was called at graduation we blew her kisses and headed to the air port.

I called this my " we made it !" trip.

I was so excited to spend a whole week with John! I was looking forward to uninterrupted conversations, eating when I wanted, no cooking, no cleaning, sleeping when tired and waking up on my own.

Zero responsibility. 

 I was also looking forward to eating HERE! It's one of my favorites! I ate here last time we were in the Bahamas. Then I hunted one down in Honolulu.

This ones better! Plus your in a foreign country and so the hospitality rocks!

 Our first meal was a shared plate and on the deck! Loved it!

 They make the best pina coladas! They are really heavy on the coconut flavor, which I like and feel like I'm having dessert with my dinner:)

 They sky was beautiful! Always is. And notice how it's night nad I have no jacket on...that equals happy.

 Our first day was short because we didn't arrive till lunch time.

So Johns practicing getting comfy for the sun in the morning.

The Hilton  is one of the only hotels that has it's own private beach. Very nice. And from the beach you can watch the cruise ships come in and out. Really quite relaxing. I found myself laying out there till midnight many a night just enjoying the warm breeze, crashing of the waves and faint laughter of people on the ships.

Bliss. 

Graduation

 It was fun to have her graduate from the same high school as John and I. 

 She decorated her hat so we could tell it was her! Loved that!

She worked really hard and we're really proud of her!
